You may never do an air in your life. And I'll say here, you may never do an air in your life and you can still be one of the most experienced and best surfers on Earth. For me, this section is my favourite because I love airs.
My dad always says to me "concentrate on basic surfing" which I should, but really, the only thing that'll help me in is contests. To tell you the truth, having won a few comps, finishing second to the world title, my whole opinion about the tour has changed. I used to really want a world title and I kinda still do, I mean I love doing the tour, but at the moment I'd rather do a huge crazy punt and stick it on front of everyone than get through a heat. And I feel the more I get loose and try not to get my three to the beach, the more popular I've become. Crazy shit is what people remember, not who got through. I just love airs. I love the feeling of racing down the line looking for a section. I love the feeling of losing track of everything else. I love the feeling when you connect with the wash. I love it when you make a turn and stand tall in the foam. To surf a wave completely and perfectly is to do everything: throw the tail, do a huge hack, fricken everything and then do a huge punt at the end. I'm pretty sure everyone likes something from a huge hack to a huge punt. If you can do all that, it's all-time. Hopefully, these pages will help you get there...
